Furnace Tune Up
A furnace tune-up should be something that you should be looking into about every year. We get a lot of calls at the start of the fall from folks looking for this type of service. The signs that your furnace may need a tune-up include a very distinct smell. If you are perceiving that burnt smell it could be a good idea to have your furnace checked out. A tune-up is mainly a full system check-up. Once we complete that we are going to be able to make any type of adjustments that we see fit.
Should I Do A Tune-Up Every Year?
This is basically the first question that we get when it comes to furnaces. The answer is yes, you should probably be looking into getting one of these every year. Why do we say that? Well, it’s a lot like a car or any other type of equipment that you may have. If you don’t use it for a while a lot of interior machinery can wear down and stick together. In the case of furnaces what we usually see happening is the furnace starts to burn a lot of dust and debris that built up inside of it when it was not in use.
Don’t Panic Over Particular Odors
So you started your furnace back up and when you did you perceived a smell of burnt something that you really can’t make out. That’s actually a bit more natural than you think. As we mentioned what is going to happen is that the dirt is going to start to be burned up by the furnace. It’s a good idea to give us a call and ask for a tune-up. It doesn’t mean though that your furnace is going to explode or anything like that. At least not in most cases.
What Would Happen If Don’t Do A Tune-Up Every Year?
Some people may be reading this thinking that tune-ups are not all that important because they haven’t done one in years and they are fine. What we always say is that tune-ups are a great way to check up on the entire system. Usually, we are able to make minor adjustments that help the furnace work properly. If you don’t do this there is a good chance that you can be fine for the season. The problem is that if anything goes wrong by the time you realize it you are probably going to be facing more extensive repairs that are going to cost more money.
Do I Have To Call You Before I Turn On My Furnace For The First Time In The Fall?
Ideally, yes you should probably give us a call beforehand. The reality is that most people will call us after they turned it on and they notice something was off. If your cold though and you haven’t had your furnace tuned, by all means, turn it on and then give us a call in the coming days.
